As in most breeds, there are genetic disorders that can present in the Lagotto Romagnolo. We are very lucky to have testing available to us for most of these issues so that we may make the most informed breeding decisions and do all that we can to move the breed forward to ensure that puppies are not born with known problems. Each of my dogs who are used in breeding are tested by the Finnish laboratory www.mydogdna.com and are also hip and elbow scored, and patella checked. While good breeders are using everything at their disposal to produce only healthy puppies it must be remembered that, like in humans, mother nature can step in with unknowns. Environmental factors can also change certain outcomes as the puppy grows. There can never be a guarantee of perfection however all that we do goes a long way towards better health in our breed.
